SARA GOMES
Bioethicist & Clinical Ethics Fellow
About me
I am currently a Postdoctoral Clinical Ethics Fellow at the University of Utah's Center for Health Ethics, Arts, and Humanities, where I sit on the Ethics Committees of the University of Utah Hospital and Primary Children's Hospital, and participate in case consultations across adult and pediatric care.
Research
In my research, I combine feminist philosophy with empirical health and social science to identify ideological distortions, debunk essentializing and victim-blaming explanations, and reveal the social and political determinants of health.
My current work focuses on the biopolitics of sterilization and how cultural stereotypes about pain sensitivity obscure the structural and political causes of pain inequities and enable systematic testimonial injustice.
